5/23/2023 0 Comments Bitter Orange by Marshall MooreSignal 8 Press | BookCyclone | Lightning Originals | Scarlet Storm PressĪll rights reserved. – Collin Kelley, author of Conquering Venus and Remain In Light More than just a superhero story, Bitter Orange examines how urban life, past tragedy, seemingly inconsequential choices, and things left unsaid can alter one’s trajectory. The inner monologue and introspection explode once Seth realizes he has the power of invisibility and psychic projection, but this character study of a hipster in crisis is quite unlike anything I′ve ever read before. Marshall Moore has created a fully realized character in Seth Harrington, whose ennui has rendered him nearly motionless. – Tom Cardamone, author of Green Thumb and editor of The Lost Library: Gay Fiction Rediscovered With Bitter Orange, Marshall Moore gives us a queer Crimes and Misdemeanors, darkly witty and equally wise. – Lee Thomas, Lambda Literary Award-winning author of The German and Ash Street His characters live and breathe, and they will carry you along on this amazing, bizarre, and ultimately disturbing journey. Like Palahniuk at his best, Moore makes the impossible seem credible, grounding the fantastical elements of his tale with the foibles of human frailty.

5/23/2023 0 Comments Pam smy the hideawayThe messaging around domestic violence is straightforward and plainspoken, while Billy’s emotional arc leans into the magical another family storyline is wrapped up tidily. Love, loneliness, and grief are portrayed in grayscale illustrations, many full-page spreads, that expertly use light and shadow to convey mood. The frantic need to find her son breaks her out of abuse-imposed isolation, gaining her the support of neighbors and (in contrast to her previous call for help for herself) the police. The text switches from the old-fashioned serif typeface of Billy’s post-departure chapters to modern, sans serif for those following his mother. His emotions are juxtaposed with the empathy he feels for the individuals each gravestone represents. Billy loves and misses his mother and hates to cause her suffering. When he’s discovered the next day by an old man who has come to clean up the cemetery in preparation for a mysterious event, they strike a deal-if Billy helps, the man will stay quiet for a couple of days, but then Billy must go home. Doing his best to be unseen-something he has far too much practice in-Billy escapes in the night to All Souls’ graveyard, where he’d found a tiny concrete hut from World War II. Sensitive Billy can’t handle witnessing his mother’s abusive relationship with her boyfriend, with whom they live. Thirteen-year-old Billy finds an unexpected refuge in this British import. 5/23/2023 0 Comments The vanishing staircaseThey could be as simple as a spiraling staircase down to a round pool of water in the center, or a busy maze of stairs and columns with the complexity of a sketch by M.C. They were intended primarily as a source of clean water but also served as gathering places, temples and refuges from the heat. People began constructing stepwells in western India in around 650 AD. On subsequent trips to India, Lautman sought out stepwells and documented them through photographs and research. "But what was shocking about it," Latman continued, "was that I couldn't recall another experience of looking down into architecture into such a complex man-made experience. The ground fell away into what looked like a man-made chasm. It was just a very nondescript low, cement wall and when I looked over it, it was a shocking experience. “My driver took me to this place and let me out of the car in a dusty kind of dirt place and said, 'walk to that wall,'” Lautman recalled. Lautman fell in love with stepwells on her first trip to India. Victoria Lautman, author of The Vanishing Stepwells of India, spent years searching them out. Walls, vegetation and neighboring buildings have grown up to hide them. Once an important part of daily life in India, modern wells have replaced them. These structures are sunken into the Earth with stairways that spiral or zigzag as far as nine stories down into the cool, dark depths where a pool of water lies. It is easy to miss the vast, ancient stepwells of India even if you are standing directly in front of one. 5/23/2023 0 Comments MahanenkoHowever it is worth noting that it does not automatically mean that the female would not be considered attractive without the glasses. It is also often used in anime and manga fandom to refer to females who wear glasses, especially when it is considered their most attractive trait. It is used in its most straight-forward way to describe people (female) where wearing glasses can be considered one of their characteristics. Meganekko ( メガネっ娘 ?) I actually loved Callie's relationship with the birds. I also liked Benny much more in this book because he has become a very sweet and protective boy who has helped Callie all the time and has fought against his darkest instincts to protect her, sending even the birds to take care of her. I really want to discover how this new talent will evolve in the rest of the series. Her use of magic was fascinating, this new gift has made her much more interesting, and it has given her more presence. She has become a stronger and braver character, much more powerful and dark. But her only option is to learn to use magic, following a dark path that can lead her to lose herself forever. To avoid this terrible fate, Callie needs to find a way to defend herself in order to stop him. Samuel has become much more dangerous now that she has betrayed him, and he won't stop at anything until she's dead, condemning her soul to spend her days trapped in the circus, slave to each one of his whims and desires as a ghost destined to kill. I received this ebook in exchange of a honest review.Ĭallie is dragged back to the island and this time she doesn't have any hope of escape. Thank you so much to the author for the book! 5/22/2023 0 Comments Owen anthem for doomed youthOwen uses ABABCDCDEFFEGG as his rhyme scheme which combines both the rhyme scheme of the Petrarchen and Elizabethan sonnet to enhance his effect, he also includes half rhyme and full rhyme. There is an octet (8 lines) and a sestet (6 lines). This poem is written in the format of the sonnet, however Owen deliberately misused the sonnet this highlights the fact that he is angry and resenting against the idea of the lack of Christian funerals that these soldiers are getting. ‘Anthem for Doomed Youth’ by Wilfred Owen is a lyric poem which is written for the young soldiers who were slaughtered during the war. 5/22/2023 0 Comments Dirty Pleasures by Meghan MarchThe male narrators Sebastian York has a deep male voice that is perfect for the filthy parts and sounds intelligent, so is perfect for the character of Creighton as well.
